Ending Confrontation with Malaysia

Ali Moertopo served in an agency called Special Operations (Opsus). Opsus is an intelligence operation tasked with ending confrontation and carrying out the process of normalizing relations between Indonesia and Malaysia. Ali Moertopo served directly with Benny Moerdani and Sugeng Djarot, who entered Malaysia to discuss resolving the confrontation further with Malaysian officials (CSIS Team, 2004: 16-17). Ali Moertopo is an officer with an extensive background in intelligence tasks, including breakthrough political tasks. Efforts to end the confrontation were successful, as marked by an agreement to normalize relations between Indonesia and Malaysia on August 11, 1966.
