Ir. Soetoto (a former THS student Class of 1923) in 1970 shared his impressions of Soekarno when they were both studying at THS. Soekarno was a dandy, always looking neat, even though he was still a student. Soekarno was the only one of the 12-15 Indonesian students who wore a “wool gabardine” jacket (this was top quality in his day), who had a bullpen (ball points did not yet exist), and rode a Fongers bicycle with gears. Bandung at that time was still cold, so riding a bike up Jalan Dago (now Jalan Ir. Juanda) to THS (now ITB) was not a problem. Apart from that, according to Ir. Soetoto admired Soekarno’s reading speed and the many THS library books he often borrowed.
