The Chair of the UPI Professors Council (DGB) said that a professor is expected to be able to have a real impact through 3K. “Our hope is simple, namely that the professor’s existence will be katangar ayana, kasaksen wawasenya, and karasa manfaatna,” he said in an interview after attending the Submission of Professorial Decrees on Monday (25/04/2022).
“Katangar ayana’s existence is visible,” he explained. Meanwhile, kasaksen wawasenya means that the abilities possessed can genuinely be proven. Then, the sense of benefit implies that the existence of a professor above all his powers can provide help, especially for society.
In proposing 3K, Prof. Karim departs from criticism from the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), which claims that it is not uncommon for a professor to use his privileges solely for personal gain. “So far, the privilege of a professor is often only used and enjoyed by the professor himself,” he explained.
Prof. Karim hopes that professors will always be able to avoid this kind of attitude. “This means that the privilege of professors is freedom and independence to develop academically, and hopefully, this is real, especially in terms of their contribution to society,” he continued.
The Professor of Political Communication reminded me that there is a big responsibility attached to every professor for the expertise they have. “Professors are not only intellectuals on campus but also public intellectuals who communicate what they find in the laboratory, their research, into public language that is easy to understand and current in real situations,” he concluded.
