On February 20, 2021, the Social Sciences Doctoral Program SPS UPI held a book review “Creative Pedagogy” by Prof. Dr. Nana Supriatna, M.Ed. The book was dissected by the co-author Dr. Abdul Syukur (UNY), Dr. Rudi Gunawan (Uhamka), Drs. Andi Suwirta, M. Hum (UI), and Dr. Nasution, M.Ed (Unesa).
During the massive development of information technology in this century, marked by artificial intelligence, big data, and the internet of things, there is only one competence of humankind that machines, namely creativity, cannot replace. This book entitled Creative Pedagogy offers alternative learning by placing the human cognitive element, namely creativity. Educators can develop teaching styles following experience, talents, and interests through creative pedagogy without being shackled to various patterned and standardized learning procedures as robots work. In the hands of creative teachers, curriculum documents become innovative curricula in the learning process so that students have exciting and fun learning experiences and are also inspired and motivated to become creative and innovative generations.
The author raises creative pedagogy as one of the relevant pedagogies to equip students with 21st-century skills. In the hands of creative teachers, critical and creative thinking skills, communication and collaboration with multiple groups, networking, digital literacy, and problem-solving can be developed. For this reason, this book deserves to be used as a reference as a textbook for lecturers, students, teachers, and teacher candidates who pay attention to the development of creativity in various disciplines, including the disciplines of History Education and Social Studies Education.
