National Seminar “Revealing the Neglected Potential of the Southern Region of West Java in a Historical Perspective

The UPI History Education Study Program, MSI West Java, and the Riyadul ‘Ulum Islamic Boarding School held a National Seminar called “Revealing the Neglected Potential of the Southern Region of West Java in a Historical Perspective.” The presenters at the activity were Prof. Susanto Zuhdi (University of Indonesia), Prof. Dr. Nina Herlina (Pajajaran University), Prof. Dr. Agus Mulyana, M.Hum, and Dr. Wawan Darmawan, M.Hum (Indonesian University of Education). The presenters saw that southern Java, including West Java, was marginalized in the historical narrative. The unfavorable impression of the southern region of Java, which is considered to be lagging, villagers, and so on, is due to the development orientation since the colonial era orienting towards the northern region of Java. It is time for historians to reveal more deeply the historical narrative of southern Java and encourage the government to accelerate the development of the southern region of Java, including in West Java.
